Digestive Health

The expression “you are what you eat” would best be explained as “you are what you digest”. Everyone’s digestive system is unique. Understanding your digestive health and what impacts it is essential to promoting optimal health.

We tend to think of the digestive tract as just a food processing system.  It is much more than that.  In fact, more than half of our immune system is located in the intestinal tract.

Nourishing the body is a complex act and with so many organs involved, problems can occur easily.  A functional problem on any organ will throw a wrench into the entire process.

In future articles,  common GI complaints and diagnoses-  gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)  constipation, diarrhea, celiac disease, etc and the nutritional strategies to assist in the management of them, will be addressed.

If you feel you are currently nourishing your body correctly and treating your digestive tract well but still have digestive complaints, see your physician to rule out medical conditions.   Food sensitivities may need to be addressed so that you can get to the underlying causes of your poor digestion, resolve them, and begin reaping the health benefits of optimal digestion.   Ignoring it will not make it go away.

Does fat blockers make me loss weight?

Does fat blockers make me loss weight?

I get this product question quit often. Pills intended to prevent your body from absorbing the fat you eat using an ingredient called Chitosan. This popular ingredient is a substance that forms the hard shells of shellfish and insects. Another is pyruvate, a substance that occurs naturally in the body and is involved in energy production.

Let’s be real… Sure, it would be nice if we could enjoy fried chicken, pizza, burgers and fries, buttered bread, rolls, ice cream, and cake — all without gaining weight. But guess what? It’s not going to happen!! We don’t know whether pyruvate and chitosan are beneficial for weight loss. We do know that both Fat Blockers and Exercise in a Bottle can run you as much as $300 a month — a whopping $3,600 a year! That’s ten time the cost of many gym memberships. If you’re serious dropping body fat, stay away from high-fat foods and get plenty of the type of exercise that doesn’t come in a bottle!
